Terms of service

Short version: DoNotEdit reads repositories you point it at and writes documentation about them. You keep your code and your docs. You bring your own AI provider key, and that provider bills you directly — we never take a cut and never resell inference. The core is free. We do not train anything on your code.

1. What the service does

DoNotEdit generates and maintains a bird's-eye overview of a software repository. It reads the repository — through a GitHub App installation you authorise, or through an agent you run yourself against our MCP endpoint — and writes a description of it. Nobody types the documentation by hand, including you: the product deliberately has no edit UI. You steer what gets written through per-project steering notes and by hiding statements you disagree with.

Because the output is generated by a language model, it can be wrong. Treat it as documentation that is usually right and occasionally not, not as a specification. Do not rely on it for anything safety-critical, legal or financial without checking it against the code.

2. Your account

You need an account to use the dashboard. You are responsible for what happens under it, including anything done with agent tokens you create. Keep tokens secret; revoke them in settings the moment one leaks. One person, one account — do not share credentials.

You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live, and you must have the right to let us read the repositories you connect. Do not point DoNotEdit at code you are not allowed to share with a third-party AI provider.

3. Your AI provider key

Server-side generation runs on a key you supply for a provider you choose. That key is encrypted at rest and used for one thing: generating your documentation. Requests go directly from our servers to that provider under their terms and pricing, and they bill you, not us. We add no markup, sell no credits, and meter nothing.

You can delete a stored key at any time, which stops all server-side generation for your account immediately. Costs incurred by your provider before that point are between you and them; we report the token counts and prices the provider returns, but the provider's own invoice is the authoritative one.

4. Repository access

The GitHub App requests read-only access to repository contents and metadata, plus push events so we know when the code has moved. It cannot write to your repositories. You can uninstall it from GitHub at any time, which ends our access at once.

5. What you publish

Projects are private by default. If you make a page public or hand out an unlisted link, you are publishing it, and you are responsible for what it contains. Dependency findings are never rendered on a public page — publishing a list of your unpatched vulnerabilities would be a disclosure, so we do not do it, whatever the visibility setting.

Do not use the service to publish unlawful material, to document code you do not have rights to, or to attack the service or the providers behind it. We can suspend an account that does.

6. Price

The core is free: unlimited projects, unlimited readers, documentation that rewrites itself on every push, dependency checking, and public and private sharing. Features that cost real infrastructure — custom domains, team seats — may be paid when they exist. If anything about what you have today changes, you will hear it from us before it happens, not afterwards.

Two things will not change, because they are how the product works rather than what it charges: we will not meter your AI usage, and we will not charge based on how many people read your documentation. The AI runs on your own key at your provider's price, and we never see your bill.

7. Availability

This is run by a small operation. There is no uptime guarantee, no support SLA, and features can change. We take backups and verify that they restore, but you should not treat DoNotEdit as the only copy of anything — it is generated from your repository, and your repository is the source of truth.

8. Ending it

Delete your account from settings whenever you like; it removes your projects, tokens and stored keys. Deleted projects sit in trash for 30 days before permanent purge, so you can undo a mistake. We may terminate an account for the abuses in section 5, or with reasonable notice if we shut the service down.

9. Liability

The service is provided as is, without warranties. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profits, or for anything arising from documentation that turned out to be inaccurate. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is capped at what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim — which, for a free account, is nothing.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death, personal injury, or fraud.

10. Changes

If these terms change materially, the date at the top changes and we will tell account holders by email. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new version.

11. Who you are contracting with

The service is operated by MB Nexus consulting, Leičių g. 17-20, LT-12109 Vilnius, Lithuania. These terms are governed by the laws of Lithuania, and its courts have jurisdiction — without depriving you of any protection your own country's consumer law gives you.
